THE CAPSULE BAG #8.

DSC_0254With spring on the horizon, I’ve gotten back into shades of pink and gold over the past week; think Nars Orgasm with a bit more punch to it. If you read my last blog post, you’ll be familiar with to of the products featured in the makeup bag: MAC’s mineralize blush in Love Thing and their lipstick in Morning Rose. I’ve been absolutely smitten with both these products, so naturally the rest of the makeup was centered around them. Apologies for the continuous raving about them, especially since I know first hand how hard that lipstick is to get one’s mitts on, but they’re just so. Good. Since I’ve been piling them on daily, the rest of the makeup has been minimal, including Maybelline’s The Falsies Flared mascara for heavy volume at the roots of the lashes, making them look über fluttery with a curl that lasts all day long. Love. To apply the blush, I’ve fallen back in love with my Sonia Kashuk stippling brush that I picked up on a whim from Target. It’s a great budget buy that not only applies bright blush effortlessly without making you look like a clown, but is super soft and blends to perfection. At the bottom of the bag, a firm favorite lately has been the Secret Agent Beauty Foreign Lip Affair Gloss in “Foreign Intelligence Flirt.” I actually received this in a Birchbox a while back and and it’s the perfect gloss for spring; adds enough color to make your lips very rosy and gives a great sheen without being sticky. And the smell. Ladies and gentlemen, the scent of this stuff is most definitely something to write home about. If you’re on the edge with this one, give it a whiff and don’t look back.

I was lucky enough to get featured today in a “Beauty Blogs Worth Bookmarking” post (here) by the lovely Natalie of Thunderlove, so a huge thank you to her for including succhisimples.! I absolutely love her blog; if you haven’t checked it out you can have a look here.

DSC_0288

DSC_0287Are you sensing a theme in my spending menu here? I apologize for the MAC-heavy posts here on le blog, but I’m not going to lie, I’m feeling a little like Will Ferrell in Elf right about now. I’m in love, I’m in love, and I don’t care who knows it. Yeah. I am. Let the angels sing it from on high, I’m having a fling with MAC and I don’t want it to end. Ever. If you popped into one of their stores or visited a counter since the beginning of the year, you’ll probably have seen their “Magnetic Nudes” collection. Now, like the frugal person I am (pretending to be), I exercised restraint here: in and out empty handed. I completely put it out of my mind until I saw Lily Pebbles in this video wearing a lipstick from the collection in “Morning Rose”, immediately looked up swatches, and became a woman obsessed. I looked online (sold out), had a friend who was visiting in Miami check every counter and store she could find (really sold out) and then gradually gave up on the idea. My last hope? The MAC counter in Dillard’s. Hallelujah, hallelujah. I may or may not have been happy-dancing my way around for the next five hours after finally finding my own tube of glory. It’s a lovely shade that’s exactly the perfect my-lips-but-better color for my skin tone and lips. The formula isn’t the smoothest and it’s lightly frosted, but for the color I can most definitely grin and bear it. As for the blush, MAC’s mineralize blush in “Love Thing” is a beautiful plummy rose that looks beyond shimmery in the pan and swatched, but fear not; no glitter to be seen once applied. I was actually slightly disappointed that the shimmer doesn’t translate as heavily, as it’s absolutely stunning in shades of pink and green duochrome, but it does give a healthy glow and perfect flush to the cheeks. Simples.

Will you be picking either one of these up soon?

THE CAPSULE BAG #6.

the capsule bag #6Don’t say it. I know what you’re thinking, this is the ugliest blog photo in the history of man, but A) I haven’t posted anything since last Wednesday, so there goes my schedule and B) I’ve been so busy the only time I’ve been able to take some blog photos is at nine at night with worse lighting than the first Twilight film. Shameful? Absolutely. It had to be done. Apologies for the late weekly favorites post, but here are… last week’s loves. Whoopsie. Here we go.

Zuzu Luxe Mineral Bronzer in D-28

My mum actually picked this up from the beauty aisle in Whole Foods (who’d have thought?) and, as it was getting dusty in the back of her drawer, I took it upon myself to spread the makeup love to this little pot of sun and ohmygosh. I lurves. It’s quite the intensely pigmented bronzer and much more shimmery than my all-timer, Nars Laguna, so I do use a light hand, but for no-highlighter days (which almost never, ever happen here at succhisimples.) this has been my go-to.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Grape Vine

For no-makeup days when lips need the extra boost of TLC and a flush of color, I’ve been swiping this bad boy onto them smoochers. Easy, breezy, and with less pigmentation than their “Cherry Me” offering, it’s great for those who don’t want too much of a flush but still love a berry tint.

Nyx Love in Paris Palette

This is one of the most adorable palettes in the universe, being that it’s smaller than my palm, and comes handy for days when I don’t want to break out seven different palettes to get all the shades I need. It’s naked, in a smaller, much more French version. Need I say more?

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit in Honey

My love affair with the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer is still going strong, but my skin hasn’t been the best lately with all the stress it’s been battling, so Bobbi’s got them breakouts taken care of with her heavy duty but not heavy-looking cover-all. Say that five times fast.

And there you have it! Last week’s favorites, this week… Simples. Which makes no sense at all, but I promise to be back on schedule with a new post (hint hint, Lorac Pro Palette Review) this Wednesday. Don’t forget to check back then! What have you been loving lately?

THE LUST LIST: 2014 EDITION.

Screen shot 2013-12-30 at 12.52.04 PMWhile I have several New Year’s resolutions concerning all things beauty, limiting my shopping list is not one of them. I realize the above photo shows an abnormally expensive roster of things I probably don’t need, but I wanted to share the items I’m hoping to be holding hostage in my room come December 31st. I’ve heard scads of bloggers raving on about the Oribe Maximista thickening spray, and I don’t thing I’ll be able to resist any longer, despite the price tag. The same goes for the Chloé Roses de Chloé fragrance; big fan of the original, big fan of roses… how could I possibly not be a fan of their baby? The Nars Yachiyo brush has been calling to me for a while now, and I think now is the time to act. In my defense, I’m planning on using it with the next product on the list, Tom Ford’s blusher in either Flush or Love Lust, which I’ve heard to be über-pigmented and require a light hand. I’m in desperate need of a new wallet, and Kate Spade has a stunning selection of reasonably priced offerings, this one being the Harrison Street model. In the high hopes of going on holiday in Europe this summer, I’m saving my pennies to throw myself a “treat yo-self” day (any parks and rec fans out there?) and pick up one of the Céline micro luggage totes at the original store. After hearing Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup raving on and on about the Malin+Goetz Dark Rum candle, I’m pretty positive I need it in my life, possibly more urgently than a Diptyque candle. Lipstick Queen has the stunning Big Bang glosses out, which I’ve been madly swatching at my local Ulta, so I’m hoping to pick up the shades Infinite and Time one of these days. Charlotte Tilbury’s Eyeshadow Quad in Dolce Vita has me absolutely dizzy, I want one so badly. You have no. Idea. I won’t go on about it, but yes, I’ve been stalking swatches, and it’s beautiful. Done. Now, I use a Nikon D5000 to photograph here on succhisimples., but I’m thinking it might be time to switch to the Canon EOS Rebel T5i. I’ve sampled Balenciaga’s Florabotanica quite a few times and am beyond head over heels in love. It’s floral, feminine, but just grown up enough. I’m also in need of a new round brush, and I’m mulling over the idea of investing in a $50 Ibiza one, but haven’t worked up the nerve to pay up just yet. Lastly, Kerastase’s Elixir Ultime is on my list to try when I run out of my dearly beloved Morroccanoil (though I’ll probably end up buying both just so I never have to be without the stuff). So there you have it! The year’s lustworthy items, simples.

What are you lusting after? I mean beauty/fashion related objects, people… Let’s try not to get too scandalous here 😉

14 WEEKS OF MELODIES #8.

bloghopbutton_zps0d768d38Lorde-Tennis Court

The past week has been really stressful, with school being more hectic than normal, but never fear. Lorde has me covered. I’m literally obsessed with this chick. No joke. Incredible voice, stunning, cool rocker-chic style. Love. I’ve especially been loving the song Tennis Court whilst doing my best to try to get through piles and piles of books. I hate that feeling of being so overwhelmed by everything that you start to feel helpless, like nothing you could possibly do will change anything, and unfortunately I’ve had enough of that going around lately to supply the whole rest of the world. And you know how, when you start to feel that sense of hopelessness coming up that you just have to stop everything and somehow you realize that you’ve spent over an hour doing absolutely nothing? Or it could be just me. The point is, Lorde, you and your crooning got me through a pretty rough spot. Thanks a bunch.

14 WEEKS OF MELODIES, #7.

Birdy- Without a Word

Drumroll please. Yes, this is the halfway point of the blog hop. Which is to say, I have actually successfully completed a post a week for the hop for seven weeks. Points for dedication. If you’re not familiar with this hop, you’re meant to write a post on a song you’ve been loving for the past week every Tuesday until December 31st. Interested? Have a look at the host blog, Beauties Unlocked, here.

So does anyone watch the vampire diaries? I’ve been obsessed with the show since it came out; I’m really not into the whole vampire shabang, but this show seriously has some of the BEST writers out there. Aside from the script, there’s literally not one single actor on the show that’s unattractive. I kid you not. So in summation, it doesn’t hurt that the show is basically a Dylan’s Eye Candy Bar. But I think one of the aspects of the show that drew me in the most was the soundtrack. Oh. My. Goodness. I’ve discovered so many songs from having heard them on the show (Medicine by Daughter, anyone?), and this week’s favorite is no exception. We’ve all heard the songy Skinny Love by Bird(or the original by Bon Iver), but another of her songs made its Vamp debut a few weeks ago during the scene where Bonnie’s friends gave her a memorial service. I immediately recognized her voice, but I had to google the lyrics to find the actual song. It’s called Without a Word, and I cannot stop hitting replay. Her voice is dreamy, and her lyrics are actually meaningful, contrary to most mainstream stuff these days. Set to a chilling piano score, it’s beyond beautiful. What songs have you been loving recently?

14 WEEKS OF MELODIES #5

bloghopbutton_zps0d768d38Daughter – “Youth”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QT5eGHCJdE

Time flies. Seriously. The past week has gone by in the blink of an eye. But. There just may have been a ‘tune or two I’ve had playing throughout the week. First off, honorable mention to the band Arcade Fire in general; they’ve been churning out song after song of pure music. Love. But the real pick this week happens to be an old favorite of mine; “Youth” by Daughter. Let’s talk about this for a sec. You know when you find this incredible song and no one you know has ever heard it before and then you show a few people and they’re like hey, “that’s good stuff.” And then all of a sudden a year later some celebrity tweets about it and now everyone loves it like nobody’s business? That’s what happened here. I “discovered” this little gem years ago and fell in love; the other day some guy off Pretty Little Liars (which I love, don’t get me wrong) instagrams a photo and everyone’s like oh that’s incredible. Excuse me. I found it first. Not really, but kind of. So yeah, I’m feeling a little robbed and torn up inside about this one, but I’m still as in love with this song as ever. If you haven’t heard of Daughter before, she (the lead singer of the band) is an incredible artist, and her other pieces don’t get nearly as much credit as this one. Like the track? Check out “Landfill” and her cover of “Peter“. If anyone finds the latter on itunes, please let me know! I’ve been searching for at least a year now and I’ve only ever found it on youtube. So there you have it! Week number five, done. Simples.

IT’S A PERFECT WORLD

origins lotion

whipped action

So the other day, I’m going about my business, snooping through my mother’s cosmetic cabinet like every good girl does at least once a month, and something catches my eye. Not just anything, either. An ORIGINS thing. And tell me, what does one do when faced with a $30 body lotion stowed away, untouched and far from prying eyes, within the cosmetics cabinet of one’s own mother who, let me point out, neglected to mention its existence? One grabs the tub and runs all the way home, that’s what. Actually, it was more like I grabbed the tub and went to her office, demanding why I wasn’t told sooner. But still. It’s kind of a big deal.

The world is not that kind. Wait, scratch that. The universe is just too mean. It does not give away things for free, and it certainly does not give away origins things for free. But you know what it does do? Sometimes, if you look close enough, it opens a little door through which you have but seconds to run and grab one of your heart’s many (I assume, if you’re reading a beauty blog) cosmetic desires. And yet, that, in itself, is too rare of an occurrence to rely on for help when the old body butter runs low. But I digress.

In short, when the universe opens a door, run straight through and don’t ever look back.

And so it was that I ran, ran as fast as my short, stubby little legs would go, asked politely if, since she had deliberately withheld this magic from me, I could please steal it, since it obviously wasn’t as deeply loved as it should have been, to which she explained simply that it was a gift from last year that she didn’t even know she still had. Thanks, mum.

But the stuff. The Origins A Perfect World Body Cream? It’s the stuff of dreams, I say. Lightly whipped, it’s light enough to not sit on the skin and hydrating enough to lock in moisture all day and all night. And it smells yummy, but that’s just a bonus. Does origins make my skin happy and joyful? Yes. Could it possibly lead to my eventual bankruptcy? Oh yes.
