FRIDAY FIXER: FOUR THINGS.

FOUR THINGSIt’s the end of the week here on succhisimples, and we’re winding down with a couple exciting new launches, vloggers, and general itching-to-buy finds. First of all, October is well and truly here, and guess what? It’s October 3rd. Happy national Mean Girls day, all. For those of you who didn’t see this chapter from Lohan’s golden era, here’s a few bits that might catch your fancy…

THE NEW LAUNCH // That Nars Holiday CollectionI don’t think I’m alone when I say that I actually did a little gasp when I saw the photos released today. Remember the Guy Bourdin collection last year that sold out before we had a chance to get a good look at the products? This is that. Ladies and gents, if there’s even the slightest possibility that you’re going to want to get your hands on the products, do yourself a favor and pre-order them online. The Laced Edge for Holiday 2014 will be available on November 1st at narscosmetics.com . My prediction? That blush palette will be sold out in two weeks. I may have my eye on that lip pencil set as well… *WARNING*: Wallets everywhere, beware.

THE MUST-SEE BEAUTY VLOGGERS // Tara from Tar Mar and Diana from easyNeonI’m always on the lookout for new beauty mavens to watch on the ‘tube (the YouTube, that is. Although I do wish I was British and cool enough to ride the tube around.) and these two are absolute babes. Tara is just… One chic lady. I’ve been obsessed with her videos since I came across them about a month ago. Besides being ridiculously gorgeous, she’s got this efforless cool-girl style and killer taste. If you’re into watching makeup tutorials often (and what beauty-obsessed gal isn’t?) trust me, you’re gonna love Diana’s videos. Her style is quite different from most beauty vloggers: she does shorter videos than most without a voiceover, just the makeup and the music. Someone should write a song about that… The makeup and the music. But I digress. She has such a good eye for makeup: she often manages to incorporate unconventional shades into surprisingly wearable-and equally stunning- looks. It doesn’t hurt that she looks like a supermodel, either, so basically any makeup looks fantastic on her, but she simplifies looks that seem complicated so that even eyeshadow noobs like myself can handle a diy makeup application based on her videos. Kind of. I’m still getting the hang of it.

THE GET-IN-MY-CLOSET PICK // Whistles Bryton Chelsea Boots in Black.  I am a woman obsessed. I need these in my life, I need these on my feet, I need these to walk all around the world. Every season, I look for the perfect pair of boots: we’ve been through Burberry, Frye, even UGG boots in the old days (let’s never go back to those). I’ve had something of a conversion in the past couple weeks, realizing the bitter truth: I live in Florida. It is hot, it is humid, it has not experienced winter boot weather since the Ice Age. Though it has dipped into the upper 40’s in January’s past, in general the dress code adheres to a strict flip flops and sandals policy. But I could use these on that weekend trip to New York coming up… *Collective sigh.* A girl can dream.

AN UPDATE.

suki photoI rarely do lifestyle posts here on le blog, so I thought today’s post (which was supposed to go up yesterday… Sorry about that.) could be a quick bit about what’s going on with succhisimples., as well as my own life. I realize many of you prefer to just read beauty-related content, so if this isn’t your cup of tea, feel free to skip over this one. No judgements made. Not really.

So first off, I tweeted earlier about my new blogging schedule for this year. There will be a new post every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and my weekly favorites, a “capsule bag” post each and every Sunday, so keep your eyes peeled for a lot of new content coming up. I don’t want to purely do boring reviews, so if you lot have any ideas for new posts, pretty please comment them below! Let me know what you’d like to see more of here on the site. I was fortunate enough to reach 300 followers on Bloglovin’ this month, and I can’t even express how much that meant to me. Thank you to all of you who have been reading since. I started blogging in January, and to all my new viewers, I hope you haven’t found me too boring just yet. Trust me, it could happen any day now, so try to bear with me and stick around. My new goal is to hit 500 Bloglovin’ followers by my birthday on March 10th, so if you’re not already following, it would mean the world to me if you would! If I do reach my goal by my birthday, I’m planning a huge giveaway for all my lovely readers (which may or may not be a bribe, but I refuse to confess to that.), so please help me get there! Leave a comment below telling me what you’re interested in getting a chance to win for the giveaway, and I’ll just pick the most popular item(s). Oh, and don’t forget to follow me on all that social media buzz in my sidebar:)

On the lifestyle end of the spectrum, yes that is my baby bro Suki in the photo above. He’s something of a model, if you will, so I thought I’d share his most vogue-worthy shot with all of you. I also just got a new lens in, the Nikon 50mm f1.8, which is absolutely fantastic if you’re a blogger out there looking for a good lens to take product photos with. TV series have taken up quite a bit of my free time lately, suffice it to say that I currently follow at least twelve. But, rather than bore you with the details, let me know if you’d like to see what I’ve been watching in terms of film and tv in the comments below! (PS, Game of Thrones, please and thank you.)

There will be another post up tomorrow to get back into my blogging routine, so don’t forget to check back. xx

THE NYE EDIT.

DSC_0230

DSC_0248Happy New Year everyone! I’ve got quite a few begginning-of-the-year-themed posts lined up, but I wanted to share the manicure and eye look I sported last night with all of you. I didn’t go crazy with the nail art this time; just simple, black cherry/wine colored tips for the evening with a bit of sparkle. Butter London’s La Moss (can you tell it’s Kate-inspired?) is my go-to deep burgundy shade for this time of year; smooth formula and stunning in two thin coats. I added a little sparkle to the mix with another Butter shade, West End Wonderland on the accent nail and I was good to go in under ten minutes. Eyes were kept simple, an itsy-bitsy kitten flick courtesy of Mrs. Bobbi Brown and my gel liner of choice, Black Ink, with lashings of mascara. Apologies for not taking a better photo of the makeup; we had company and I was in a rush to snap some photos and go. End of the year eyes and tips, simples.

What did you sport on your eyes and nails for NYE? Let me know in the comments below!

14 WEEKS OF MELODIES, #14.

Long Black Road-Electric Light Orchestra

… And here we are. It’s the last of the fourteen weeks for this blog hop as 2013 comes to a close, so I won’t bore you by droning on and on about this week’s pick. I’ve been loving listening to the American Hustle soundtrack (which is incredible, by the way) as a little 70’s throwback, and the song Long Black Road? Yes. I’m obsessed. It’s not for everyone, but I do love listening to it while jogging (I’m a bit of a sucker when it comes to 70’s and 80’s music…). I can’t believe I actually managed to do every single post in the blog hop; I’ve been quite busy but I’m happy I stuck with it and did all fourteen. Wishing you all a very happy New Year’s tonight :)

MY FAVORITE BLOGS OF 2013.

blog favesWith this being the year I got into both reading blogs and running my own site, I wanted to give a nod to the ones that both inspired me to start my blog and those that I’ve enjoyed reading all year long.

Porcelain Shree

I adore Shree’s blog; she always keeps her reviews detailed, but still very to the point. A lot of blogs I read usually don’t include any lifestyle/personal bits, so I love how refreshing it is that even though she stays true to chatting about beauty, she gives her readers peeks into her own life and updates us about what’s going on. Plus, I’m a sucker for pretty blogs, and her new layout is seriously gorgeous. Love.

20/30 Glam

My first ever comment from a reader on one of my posts came from this lovely pair of bloggers, Julie and Ashley. Besides being two of the sweetest people, they keep the reviews coming and I seem to always end up ogling the products on their blog. I don’t tend to see many tips/tricks posts around the blogosphere, so I love that they’ll do series of quick bits about new ways to use the products you’ve got.

But First, Coffee.

I’ve been reading Kallie’s blog for a while now, and I actually just saw that she reached a thousand Bloglovin’ followers, which is huge, so congratulations to her! First off, she’s seriously gorgeous, and I love watching her on youtube as well (you can check out her channel here). She gives great reviews for products, and I love reading her Sunday Inspiration posts as well.

Ana Céline Labod

I started reading Ana’s blog a few months back after seeing her Face of The Day post (here) and I remember noticing how absolutely stunning she is. I read a few of her older reviews and loved her style as well, and from there I was hooked. I love the way her blog looks (sensing a pattern here?), and her reviews are honest and concise, with some gorgeous photography thrown in.

hanhabelle

Since discovering Hanh’s blog a little while ago, I always do that thing when a post of hers pops up on my bloglovin’ reader where I drop everything to read. She has lovely taste, and her blogging style reminds me a lot of Kate’s from ghostparties., one of my favorite blogs. I love good photos when flipping through blogs, and hers are no exception, always sharp and stunning.

The Beauty Recensionist

Giada’s been a pretty constant reader of my blog, which always makes me happy; I love knowing that people out there actually care about what I write. Her own blog is fabulous; great photos, reviews, the whole nine yards, very reminiscent to me of Vivianna Does Makeup. Lovely read.

There you have it! My most-read blogs of 2013, simples.

14 WEEKS OF MELODIES #3

bloghopbutton_zps0d768d38

I cannot believe it’s been a week. The past seven days have just been a blur, but I have had time to listen to a few ‘tunes. This week’s “Melodies” post is a quickie, since I have a Birchbox post coming up tomorrow and a guest blog post on another website to pop up sometime soon. If you’re into the Indie music scene, you’ll definitely have heard of the band Haim recently, as they’ve been absolutely taking over the indie airwaves, even being featured in the last issue of Entertainment Weekly. It’s a trio of three California sisters, and the song pick this week is their biggest hit so far, The Wire. Have a listen here. The week has been beyond amazing, and this song is just terrifically upbeat without ever getting annoying. Anyone remember the Meredith Grey-Cristina Yang 30 second dance parties from Grey’s Anatomy? Well, this is my 30-second jam. To be honest, I’ve had it on replay ALL week, so I might have been jammin’ every minute. I’m not really sure. But I digress.

THE LUST LIST #1.

As a professional wishlist maker, I’ve had one of these “Things To Buy” checklists running since before I turned seven. True, it has evolved ever so slightly in the past decade or so, but the habit remains. It’s probably not the best thing for my bank account, but I digress. Onto the products.

Screen shot 2013-10-06 at 12.20.09 PMFirst up, the Nude Perfect Cleansing Oil, retailing at $36 a pop. Yes, it’s pricey, but after obtaining a sample from my local Sephora a few weeks ago, I have to say, it’s well worth the price tag. This stuff smells incredible, melts makeup right off, and leaves skin silky-soft. Again on the cleansing front, Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser. Quite the mouthful. Birchbox has just introduced this one to the states, making it readily available via their website (if you don’t know what Birchbox is, check back soon for an unboxing and intro to the subscription box!). The last skincare-ish lustworthy item on the docket is the Nuxe Rêve de Miel lip balm. A favorite in the British blogosphere, I’ve been wanting to pick this baby up for ever. Next up, the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder. I first heard about this product from Estée, or essiebutton‘s videos. I’ve been looking for the perfect powder to wear with just a bit of concealer for no makeup-makeup days, and this one seems to tick all the boxes. Whilst in Sephora the other day, I finally got the chance to test out Josie Maran’s watercolour cheek gelées, gorgeous little pots of gel blusher that glide on the skin like butter. After hearing all the hype on blogs, this one is definitely wantworthy. And now, succhisimples’ most wanted, public favorite number one, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette. I’d been lusting after the shade “Dim Light” for quite some time, but after seeing this pop up on Makeup And Beauty Blog, I fell in love. No joke. For $58, you get three ambient lighting powders worth $45 a piece, including the limited-edition shade “Incandescent Light” and the warming “Radiant Light”, and a 0.16 oz. sample of the Mineral Veil Primer, which I’ve been dying to try, worth $18 alone. Great bang for your buck. Godwilling, she will be mine. Of course we’ve all heard of Diptyque from our über-chic british blogging friends, but the brand is, to say the least, elusive with regards to its presence in the American market, having only one store in the States located in New York City. The “Eau Duelle” Eau de Parfum is described as a “sensuous bourbon vanilla paired with a pod infusion for a rich fragrance with depth. It’s underlined by the amber animality of cistus and the warmth of ambroxan.”I adore warm vanilla scents, and I think that this one will be perfect for winter. I’ve heard great things about the YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking mascara; I’ve actually never tried a super high-end mascara before, so I thought this would be a great place to start. Last but not least, we have the Nars Pure Radiant Creamy Concealer. It could be that I’ve simply been unimpressed with nearly all the drugstore concealer offerings I’ve tried, or that I’m just a snob when it comes to base products; either way, I want this. I’ve been in need of a good concealer for blemishes for a while now, and while this isn’t cheap, I’d really like to try it and see what all the hype is about.

So that’s it! My current most lusted-after items. I’m going to try to post one of these every month, so stay tuned. I’m also challenging myself to put up a post every day this month, so check back for more! What products are you lusting after this month?

WHAT I’M WEARING: SPOTTED.

“Good Morning Upper East Siders. Gossip Girl here. And I have the biggest news ever. Spotted: Lonely boy, shoe-less and clueless.”

Oh, how I do miss GG. I’m sure there’s a few of you reading this thinking the exact same thing. Give me New York, a killer wardrobe, and Chuck Bass any day over reality. But, for those of us still struggling to find our own way to the Upper East Side, we have to get our “Spotted” news elsewhere. And so, God created the spotted pant.

Yes. I wore polka dots. I picked these up on a trip to Manhattan’s H&M a few years back, but pushed them to the back of my closet, because come on. No one wants to look like they’ve just skinned a dalmatian. But. The other day I’m staring into my closet, trying to figure out an outfit, when these peek out from a pile of clothes on a rack, and I must say, I’ve has a change of heart . Yes, they’re absolutely outspoken and scary, but they have this cool artsy sense about them, something street-chic and completely spontaneous. Paired with a bright peach bag and black tee, also from the fashion house, and my trusty Prada flats, I think I’m in love.

Thoughts? Love it, hate it? What’s the last statement piece you sported? Drop me a comment below :)
