THE CAPSULE BAG #14.

capsule bagThis just in: we are well and truly in autumn territory. It was easy to pretend summer was (possibly?) still on its last legs here in sunny Florida, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end. Don’t get me wrong, I dig fall. Here’s the catch: we here in the sunshine state don’t have a proper autumnal season. Fall means slightly cooler weather (and by that I mean low temperatures in the mid 70’s) and the same boring palm trees that sit there and refuse to change color all year round. No gold, red, and orange leaves lining the streets here; just a former vacation paradise that’s sunny and chilly and so-not-autumn-y all at the same time. But I digress. On to the products.

KORRES CHEEK BUTTER IN CHARA CRIMSON.

I mentioned this in a haul a while bag from Hautelook but didn’t really get much use out of it until now. The shade is perfect for fall; a lovely red-tinted deep rose that gives the perfect “Snow White” effect to the cheeks (as in that I’ve-just-been-running-through-the-snow look, not the I-was-raised-by-dwarves-and-don’t-know-how-to-put-on-makeup effect) that’s lightly moisturizing and leaves a dewy finish to the cheeks.

BOBBI BROWN CREAMY CONCEALER KIT IN HONEY.

This is an oldie, but a goodie. It’s quite hefty coverage for under the eyes, but I’ve been using a light hand with this for those days when I look like I haven’t slept in a while (i.e. most days). It’s quite thick, so don’t go overboard with this stuff: when Bobbi says creamy, she means creamy. I wouldn’t buy it in the kit again, as the pale yellow setting powder shade isn’t my favorite, but it is nice for on-the-go touchups when you don’t want to bring a separate powder to lock your concealer in place.

BENEFIT GIMME BROW IN MEDIUM/DARK.

I’ve been too lazy to do any real work with my brows on a day-to-day basis, so mornings see me slapping this on and heading out the door. Let me say this: it’s the most perfect brow product ever if you want something easy that you don’t have to think too much about. It’s a fiber brow gel that gives them a nice tint and somehow fills them in with easy, setting them in place so they don’t move around all day. Definitely a makeup stash staple.

BY TERRY OMBRE BLACKSTAR IN MISTY ROCK.

I mentioned this in my last post about By Terry, and I must say, it’s love. It’s the most beautiful rosy plum shade with gorgeous shimmer that lasts and lasts on my oily eyelids. Paired with a matte rose-toned plum brown in the crease (UD Nooner, MAC Quarry), this makes for the perfect effortless eye look for fall. Color me obsessed.

THE MONTHLY ROUNDUP: OCTOBER 2013

monthly roundup 2I’ll admit, I’m just slightly late in posting one of these, since the last time I did was in July… Oops. I know I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to keep up with school and the blog recently, but I’m working hard now to try and stabilize everything, but thank you so much to everyone still following me through my erratic postings. So.

We’re officially in the winter swing these days, with Thanksgiving just around the corner and Christmas sneaking up far too early (though I’d be lying if I told you I mind), so my favorite products of October are quite seasonal, apart from the odd bits and bobs. First off, Real Techniques buffing brush and multi-task brush. Basically the buffing brush is an absolute dream for applying foundation, working product into the skin so effortlessly it leaves a completely seamless finish. And the other item in question? The multi-task brush, of the “Travel Essentials” set, is the perfect size for applying blusher just where I like it, about a third of the way into the apples of the cheeks and brushed slightly up the cheekbone. Love.

Next up, I went on the hunt for a berry blush for autumn from the drugstore, and found the perfect match in Maybelline’s FitMe blush in “Deep Wine“. It looks stunning applied lightly on the cheeks, giving a gorgeous lit-from-within rosy glow. Keeping with the brand, I also found the perfect oxblood/berry lipstick in Maybelline’s Color Sensational LipColor “Deepest Cherry”. Oh yes. My love for these two runs deep. Great price, and beyond versatile product. Try applying in an ombré style, patted out from the center of the lips, as a light stain with a slap of lip balm or gloss on top, or full-on cherry for a bold pout. Expect to see a post pop up soon on some winter lips…

If you’ve red my blog recently (which I hope you have), you will have seen my review on the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette, so I shan’t go too far into detail about this little bundle of glowy-ness and the primer it includes, but I couldn’t not include it, since I literally haven’t stopped using it since the mailman Jim dropped it on my doorstep like a freaking Sephora Santa Claus; just know that it’s beyond fantastic, giving you everything you need for a flawlessly sculpted and perfectly “lit” face. Interested? Have a look at my review here.

Last but most certainly not least, the NARS creamy radiant concealer in “Ginger”. Oh my gosh. I can’t even describe my love for this little tube. First off, the packaging is beyond stunning. But the product? This thing blows everything you thought you knew about concealer out of the water. Yes, it’s true that none of us like the idea of showing off dark circles to the universe, but eventually you get sick of caking stuff under there, you know?

*Enter, NARS concealer*.

Never cakey, never creases, and gives natural, buildable coverage that never feels heavy. And the fact that it doubles up to erase them blemishes? Score.

So there we have it! That’s everything I’ve been in love with for the past month. Simples. What are your October favorites? Drop me a comment below, and please link up your post if you’ve done one on them so I can have a look!

HELLO, OCTOBER.

DSC_0177Everyone say Hi.

I’ve recently come to the realization that this month has to be my favorite of the entire year, topping even my birthday month (it’s March, by the way, in case you wanted to send me some fantastic present). Think about it. Yes, Autumn officially starts in September. But let’s be honest, the whole month, we’re all still in shock that summer’s over, and can’t seem to grasp the idea that it might be time to start breaking out the scarves and boots. We’ve just spent three entire months fawning over salt sprays and Victoria’s Secret-worthy tans, lusting after coral blushers and neon nails. But then September hits, and the fact that maybe it’s time to put the beach umbrellas away and give the summer a hearty farewell starts to set in, and on the inside, we’re all suffering from a little PTSD from watching it go. What is it Lana calls it? Summertime Sadness?

Well, it happened. And now it’s gone.

So October comes in, guns blazing, and all of a sudden we’ve accepted that summer’s time is up and we start humming Christmas carols under out breath. Well. Not everyone does that. It could be just me, but who really knows? The point is that when the month begins, we start getting into this weird, bewitching autumnal holidays-are-a-coming feeling that’s pretty incredible, if you ask me. And we start to feel a little bit of hope fill the void July left behind as it rode off into the sunset. So yeah, I guess you could say I’m a little bit in love with this October guy.

Onto a new product. *Cue drumline* … It’s a candle! I haven’t really blogged about them at all, but I’ve gotten really into these kids lately, and this one from Bath and Body Works is just. There are no words. It’s called Fresh Balsam, and it has this incredibly rich pine scent to it, like you’ve just  walked past a Christmas wreath and gotten a  whiff of its merry goodness. It’s quite warm and comforting, and great for getting into that fall spirit. If you haven’t, and you need a candle to do it for you, then that’s not a good sign. But if you do, give this one a go.

Coincidentally, one of my absolute favorite blogs is named Hello October (see what I did there?). To be honest, I might have possibly perhaps named this post after it because I’m that in love with it, but you know. If you haven’t seen it yet, go look NOW. It’s run by the impossibly beautiful Suzie, and the entire blog is just gorgeous. I love the quirky-ish SoHo chic layout, and she does such a great job writing really honest reviews and making fun videos. Have a look here.

Hope you’re enjoying your October!
